In my MEJO 252 course, Audio Journalism, I learn to find, report and produce local stories that relate to the UNC-Chapel Hill community using Adobe Audition. This is the news wrap to my first audio story. I also helped to organize my team's participation in this event!

HOST INTRO: UNC celebrates women and female sports.

TRACK1: Hundreds of participants celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day Sunday with twelve of UNC’s Women’s athletic teams. It was the eighth annual event. Kids of all ages tried out new sports and met the student-athletes at the Indoor Practice Facility.

Korie Sawyer Rich is the Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Development, and helps organize the event each year. She says it’s a great way for teams to gain exposure and support.

SAWYER RICH1: “So for some of our teams that don’t get visibility like fencing and rowing, this is just a really great opportunity to show kids what fencing is, what rowing is, but for some of our other teams like soccer and field hockey this is just a great event for fans to meet maybe some of their idols or girls that they look up to.”

TRACK2: She hopes that this exposure will inspire sponsors for the new fundraising initiative called FORevHER Tar Heels. This program seeks to fund additional resources for female student-athletes such as networking and mentorship opportunities.
